Why am I using this term? It’s the best term I’ve found to describe this sort of thing – my autoimmune arthritis might have me using a wheelchair, most often walking with a stick, or it might not look like there’s anything wrong at all. When it’s an “invisible illness” I still have to deal with pain and restricted physical capabilities, as is the case for many with these illnesses, though I don’t always need wheelchair access. Disability is diverse and I want to make it clear from the start that my experiences won’t be universal.
